There are no two ways about it: The most expensive—er, wonderful—time of year is just around the corner and like every year, hoteliers across the snow covered mountains in Austria are starting their frenzy to find qualified professionals to be able to fill thier open positions.

You build your career and your CV

If you’re straight out of school, have just terminated your first internship or are struggling to fill you CV adding a seasonal job is a great way to show additional job experience. Alternatively, if you’re looking to switch industries, or move up within your field of expertice but have no experience in your new field, adding a seasonal job can help bridge the gap.

If this is what you’re going for, try to land a seasonal job at a big-name, renowned Hotel—even though your role is seasonal, that experience on your resume can impress potential full-time employers.

You earn Great $$ and prepare yourself for future Full-Time Job Opportunities

From an employer perspective, hiring full-time employees from seasonal staff is ideal. In the same way you get to try out a company, an employer also gets to see just how well you’d fit in. Seasonla Jobs, on top of that, pay more then full time jobs (seen over the short term) and give you a chnace to safe your Money. Since your spare time is LIMITED, YOU HAVE NO TIME TO SPEND IT!

For example, when I interview candidates, I continually make mental notes on who stands out, who has potential, who has a great personality and so on. Then, during the season, I meet with hiring managers and HR directors of many major Hotels to make recommendations on which employees could be right for long-term roles. After continoulsy working with these employees over the years, my feedback becomes extremley valuable, even more so than any CV or refernce letter and a great number of my recommended candidates were hired for full-time or follow-on positions. . Finally, if you’re interested in a full-time job at a Hotel, its important to mention your interest directly to your supervisor—you want to stay top of mind when the company is considering candidates for full-time roles.

The downside

Immediate start, short or no training period

Due to the temporary nature of seasonal jobs, employers often don’t want to or simply cant invest in extensive training or development for their short-term employees. In fact, the training you receive on your first day may be the only training you receive throughout your employment, or you simply learn on the job. And without a lot of training, job tasks for seasonal roles tend to be basic and even repetitive. This however you can turn into a positive and increase your flexibilty and your ability to pick up new things fast!

Less free time – less time to spend money!

Due to the nature of seasonbal jobs your free time and social life can be very limited, or all but disappear. If you have a more flexible schedule, expect your temporary employer to ask you to work full time—or even more. It’s likely that your seasonal job will conflict with holiday parties and your holiday travel plans, so be sure to understand the commitment level expected by your seasonal employer before accepting a job.

However, seasonal Jobs are sometimes great to save up cash for future travel plans or extensive vacations. So even if you have to go a certain period of time witout a holiday or with less days off, you can enjoy your savings later and go on a trip you always wanted to or thke the next summer off and surf the waves of Waikiki!

All in all, a seasonal job can be the perfect opportunity to make career advancements in a short period of time while making your wallet nice a phat! Just be sure it’s the right fit for you and your goals.
